Self driving rental cars from Hyderabad to Nizamabad
Exploring Nizamabad felt like stepping into a time capsule wrapped in modern charm. The third largest city in Telangana, this place was once called Indur, named after King Indradatta in the 5th century. Over time, the city changed hands, saw empires rise and fall, and was eventually shaped into the cradle it is today by the Nizams of Hyderabad. Getting here was easy too—self driving rental cars from Hyderabad to Nizamabad made the journey smooth and gave me the freedom to explore at my own pace.
Nizamabad, while rooted in history and culture, also presents a dynamic and evolving economic landscape. The city's economy is primarily driven by government jobs, small industries, and private businesses. In recent years, there has been a notable push towards industrial development, especially after the formation of Telangana state. Industrial parks have been established in rural pockets like Sarangpur and Nehru Nagar, aiming to boost local employment and manufacturing.
One of the stories that stayed with me was about the Nizam Sugar factory, once the largest in all of Asia during the reign of the Nizams. Standing near it, I could almost imagine the buzz of activity from its prime days. Not far from there, I came across a major spice park, a reminder that agriculture still pulses through the veins of the city.
Hyderabad to Nizamabad self-drive car rentals made it easy to reach even the less-explored spots like the spice park and rice milling zones, giving me a glimpse into the local economy and rural lifestyle. Driving through the outskirts, especially around Khanapur, I saw endless stretches of rice fields and clusters of rice mills. It turns out, Nizamabad is the largest rice producer in Telangana. That explains the hearty meals and rich flavors that define the local cuisine.
I didn't expect Nizamabad to feel so fresh and forward-looking. New developments are popping up everywhere, apartment blocks stretching into the sky, commercial centers buzzing with life, and roads that make driving a breeze. With every corner turned, I could see how real estate and infrastructure were shaping a vibrant, urban future.
And then I made my way up to Nizamabad Fort, which sits on a hill just outside the city. The place has a long history, from ancient kings to the Nizams of Hyderabad. The Lord Rama temple was quiet and beautiful, with big open halls and strong pillars. After that, I visited the museum nearby, which had old items from the past, like sculptures, bronze figures, and even weapons. It was a simple but meaningful way to learn about the region's past.
“While in town, I made it a point to explore these places….”
Just 13 km from Nizamabad, Alisagar is a peaceful spot with a deer park, water activities, and open space to relax. The hilltop Nizam guest house felt like a quick nature escape, though under renovation, still offers a great view.
After exploring Alisagar, I drove over to Ashok Sagar, just a short distance away. The rock garden, beautifully illuminated at night, is the perfect contrast to the ancient fort vibes, and I couldn't resist a peaceful boat ride on the lake to wind down.
Post my visit to the Ashok Sagar, I decided to get closer to nature by heading to Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary. The drive through the forested area was a refreshing change from the cave exploration. This sanctuary, tucked between Nizamabad and Medak, was the perfect place to relax in nature.
Ending my trip to Nizamabad at Nizam Sagar Dam was the perfect choice. With its vast waters stretching across the River Manjeera, this historic dam is not just a marvel of engineering but also a peaceful retreat. I couldn't resist taking a boat ride. It was the perfect note to end my trip on. If you're planning a visit, I highly recommend using self drive rental cars from Hyderabad to Nizamabad—it makes the whole experience far more flexible and personal.
